NYC – Bowery Black

Hi everyone, today I’m going to be reviewing Bowery Black by NYC (New York Color.) This is one of my favourite nail varnishes of all time. It never fails me. It’s a black varnish with a silver shimmer. In person, the silver stands out quite a bit, but in the photo, it isn’t that noticeable.

This varnish is part of their In a New York Minute collection. This varnish can be found on most nail polish online shops for around £2 – £3. I got this one from eBay. The bottle is 9.7ml and is quite a thin consistency, but it is also fairly easy to work with. A lot of other thinner varnishes have a tendency to run down the sides of your nails and flood your cuticles. The only down side to this varnish is that on the first application, it is quite patchy. I found I had to work quite quickly with this as it dries very quickly. If you spend too much time working on the same nail, it becomes very streaky. So, in this case, less is certainly more. Here is one coat of Bowery Black.

The patches have disappeared! I would definitely say that this is more of a dark grey than a black. Once this dries, it’s very smooth. I can never work out if I’ve already top coated them! I will say that a thinner top coat will work better with this varnish. If you use a thicker one, it can make it look too thick.

So that was my review of Bowery Black by NYC. I hope this helped you!

MUA – Pitch Black

Hi everyone! Today I’m going to be reviewing Pitch Black by MUA (Make Up Academy.)

These are relatively small bottles (6.2 ml) but for £1 I’m not complaining. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much out of such a cheap brand, but I was wrong! This polish is easy to apply and when done carefully, can be completely opaque in one coat! The brush is very small, so in some ways this done make for easy application, but I had trouble on my thumb nail, since it’s a larger area to cover.

The beauty of this polish is that it’s not thick at all, so it’s perfect for nail art. It’s highly pigmented as well. This polish is a little patchy, so if you’re using this as just a base colour, I would use two coats. But I used this as a base for nail art and it worked perfectly. There is one down side, without a thick top coat, this polish does chip VERY easily. I forgot to put a top coat on one of my nails and within two to three hours it had chipped. So always use a thick top coat or two or three coats of a thinner one.

In the picture below you’ll see my holographic star nails with one coat of Black Pitch by MUA.

So, it isn’t the best black ever. However, it certainly isn’t the worst! I would definitely use this again.
