Hi everyone, for my first blog, I’ll be reviewing Blue Grape by Barry M. This is out of their Gelly collection. 👇
I’m reviewing this one first because it’s one of my favourites. I love the bold colour. This varnish and many others from Barry M can be found at both Boots and Superdrug for £3.99. For a couple of years now I’ve been a fan of Barry M varnishes. They say on their website that they make their varnishes thicker for one coat coverage. This I agree with. The formula is amazing and fairly easy to work with.
However, if like me you’re a nail artist, these are only good as base colours or as an ombre. They’re far too thick for nail art. These types of varnish can’t be used with nail vinyl’s, and because they’re so thick, they take a long time to dry completely so even using tip guides is difficult.
Although, they’re not my preference, they are great for somebody who doesn’t do nail art and just wants a base colour.
Application was relatively easy, again, a little too thick but the good news is, it’s a one coat wonder! This varnish isn’t streaky, which in some thinner ones, can be a problem. I should also mention that with a colour so bold and thick, you should always use a base coat. Nail staining is a huge problem with products such as these. Also, just in case you do flood your cuticles, I would recommend using either 100% acetone or an acetone based nail varnish remover. Using a non-acetone remover takes a lot longer. The picture below shows my nails with one coat of Blue Grape by Barry M.
Impressed? I am.
